We recorded an episode, I had my brother make his final statement, intending that to be the end of it, and then we just kept talking. This is 50% me being roasted by my brother and 50% him suddenly remembering all the details about our trip he couldn’t remember in part one. Over the summer, my 18-year-old brother and I spent 3 weeks together in South Korea, and obviously we had to unpack that on the podcast. We go over childhood memories, why we chose to go to Korea, the experience of travelling together when we haven’t really spent much time together in nearly 8 years, the appeal of K-pop, Korean vs. American celebrities, renting friends in Korea, why I am a walking travel disaster, and loads more. This is part two chatting with one of my long-time best friends & amazing singer songwriter Ashley Rose. We talk about her experience seeing Björk live (aka meeting god), expanded definitions of church and worship, whether the power of seeing a work of art or performance in person comes from the presence of the work/artist or from the environment it’s in, collective energy and the dancing plague of 1518 (disclaimer around the time we were talking about that I really poorly tried to explain the “neurological phenomenon” of brain activity syncing up but really what I was trying to talk about was mirror neurons and that is not at all an accurate description of how mirror neurons function my bad), go back into our previous concept album chat, discuss singer songwriters and take a bit of a deep dive into the way Tori Amos writes, chat about how helping one connect with oneself is a sacred function of art, and more. This one's a chat with one of my long-time best friends & amazing singer songwriter Ashley Rose. We cover Ashley’s extensive CD collection, physical vs. digital media intake (in terms of music and books), the evolution of the concept album, Shakespeare, the Ford Thunderbird, our mutual love of antiquing and old postcards, and more - and have an ASMR-esque Christmas-present-opening interlude because we actually recorded this a million years ago when I was home for the holidays! Georgia’s back!!! We’re rehashing the ideas presented in one of my most played episodes, “Pretty Privilege”, this time asking - is “pretty privilege” actually a thing? What about it is a privilege anyway?
